Student Fisheries Association assists TN State Parks with hands-on demonstrations during Nature Rally
The Student Fisheries Association (SFA) recently lent a hand to Tennessee State Parks
with the staging of Nature Rally, an annual event designed to increase public awareness
and appreciation of natural resources found at parks in the state. This year's Nature
Rally was held on April 12-13 at Standing Stone State Park, and SFA members led a
session focused on aquatic invertebrates in which they demonstrated common sampling
approaches and provided basic information about identifying some of the most commonly
encountered invertebrates. As explained by SFA members, sampling aquatic invertebrates
is an important component of monitoring the health of freshwater ecosystems since
the presence and absence of certain groups can indicate the relative level of degradation
in the system. Interested in the SFA or one of our other student organizations? Learn more at student organizations.
